Background
Of the excecutions performed every year, China donates over 60% of them. Some people are being excecuted for petty crimes such as stealing food , others for white collar crime such as fraud or conning projects. Drug dealers, drug users, homeless, fathers mothers brothers sisters sons and daughters are all losing their lives for little if any reason. But the real question is, who benefits? One thing often found about the Chinese government is that corruption and bribes run so deep into the system that it even seems the countries run China. Such harsh punishment for stealing an apple, but for taking a bribe which stands as more than 1000 people can make in their lives? BUT, china isin’t completely without morals. The Director of China’s food and drug administration, who was known for being corrupt, for issues with many products shipped out of china. The effect of those products had a negative effect on Chinese trade, but in the end there was no real effect. (the unofficial reason for his death is simply that his dealings and because he effected China’s good name on a world scale, (plus they needed a “scape goat”)
Problem
The honest question at the bottom of all these issues is when is it okay for anyone to take a life? And, if you take a life, was it justified? Did he commit a crime on par with the punishment? Or, was he just an innocent that no one would miss, and happened to be in prime condition. China, unlike most of the world, has improved their killing efficiency (of their own people of course) by bringing in the “death vans”. These vans are literally mobile death centers. They can kill whomever they want, whenever they want, and who in the world would dare argue with them? Certainly not the metaphorical beacon of hope, the US, sadly we are almost, if not more so corrupted than the government in China. But the real problem is more than the death of innocents, even the convicts in jails, many of the executed have their organs taken out and sold on the black market. The government’s corruption is root deep, and the people of China suffer for it.
Solutions
The best thing about our country is that we have freedom of speech; we have the ability to change our country with simple letters to our congress senators. The awareness of the issue on a world scale is already present, the next steps have to do with a personal choice to support these executions, or not. The real reason for the deaths themselves is so that China can sell this new…cash crop… if the market for these bodies disappears, then where will the motivation to kill these prisons be? If it comes down to a choice of life or death, is It really better to take the organs of a person who was killed like cattle to be harvested like corn? Or is it better to sit on the waiting list, because in the end, if you choose not to take that organ, you may save the lives of millions.
